Between 2012 and 2024, Balázs Gulyás served as Professor of Translational Neuroscience at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and was the Founding Director of NTU’s Cognitive Neuroimaging Centre (CoNiC). As one of the founding professors of LKCMedicine and the inaugural leader of the school’s Neurology and Mental Health Programme, he played a key role in establishing the faculty’s research and academic profile. Prior to this, he spent the majority of his scientific career at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where from early 2025 he holds the title of Emeritus Professor. Dr. Gulyás studied medicine at Semmelweis University in his native Budapest, graduating as a medical doctor in 1981, while simultaneously pursuing physics courses as a guest student at Eötvös Loránd University. He later obtained BA and MA degrees in philosophy (1982, 1984) from the Catholic University of Leuven, followed by a PhD in neurobiology at the same institution in 1988.
