Over the past 15 years, I have continuously worked in the field of law enforcement or crime prevention, primarily focusing on the protection of children and youth. I have come to realize that while today there is increasing awareness in areas such as finance, energy, environment, and health, when it comes to ensuring our safety, we are still waiting for others to act. However, the vast majority of today’s crimes and dangers — in other words, becoming a victim — can be avoided if we are just a bit more conscious and attentive. This is especially true in the online space, where both we and our children are exposed to abuses that almost without exception exploit our inattention, naivety, goodwill, or sometimes even greed. It is essential for both adults and young people to stay informed so that we can recognize the ever-evolving criminal behaviors — now increasingly supported by artificial intelligence — in time, and act accordingly.
